Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning

The words Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are often used interchangeably, but that’s not quite right. AI is an umbrella term for smart technology into which you can build rules to perform tasks.

As shown in the below diagram, AI is the broader concept of machines being able to carry out tasks in a way that we would consider “smart”. AI encompasses technology and systems such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Vision Systems such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR).

Machine learning makes computers more intelligent without explicitly teaching them how to behave. They learn based on experience, which in this case is huge volumes of data. ML is one application of AI based around the idea that we give computers access to data and they learn for themselves.

Whether we realise it or not, we have all experienced machine learning (ML). Think about Google maps suggesting the best route to travel or your internet browser showing you what you just may want to purchase based on previous purchases. It is a pervasive technology that is all around us and gaining more and more traction.

We help and guide our clients on their AI journey by understanding their requirements and objectives, and then helping to implement the correct AI tools to meet the challenge.
